Creatures of the Night Double Bill
"Your wife has such a beautiful neck..."
"Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire."
South West Silents and Maria Pérez Cuervo from Hellebore join forces again to showcase two more horror classics, this time, celebrating the 'Creatures of the Night!'. All of which will be screened on the biggest cinema screen in Bristol. Bristol's Megascreen!
This special double bill will include a screening of F. W. Murnau's classic silent film Nosferatu – Eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922) with live musical accompaniment by Stephen Horne.
After Nosferatu, there will be a screening in the shape of 1980s classic The Lost Boys (1987) starring Kiefer Sutherland and Corey Feldman.
The event will have a number of stalls open on the day including special South West Silents, Hellebore merch stands and Espensen Spirit will be selling their specially themed cocktails.
Plus, there’ll be a special prize for the best vampiresque fancy dress in the audience. This will be revealed at the end of the event.
2pm: Nosferatu – Eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922)
Director: F. W. Murnau Starring: Max Schreck, Gustav von Wangenheim, Greta Schröder, Alexander Granach GER / 97 mins / PG
One of the most iconic films of the German expressionist era, let alone cinema itself, will showcase the way this incredible film is meant to be shown: on the big screen with live musical accompaniment.
Featuring some of the most iconic images in cinema history, Murnau’s Nosferatu: Eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror) continues to haunt and terrify modern audiences with its unshakable power of gothic imagery and blood curdling suspense.
In this first-ever screen adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a simple real-estate transaction leads an intrepid businessman deep into the superstitious heart of Transylvania. There he encounters the otherworldly Count Orlok (portrayed by the legendary Max Schreck, in a performance the very backstory of which has spawned its own mythology) who soon after embarks upon a cross-continental voyage to take up residence in a distant new land… and establish his ambiguous dominion.
With thanks to Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation, Wiesbaden. Live musical accompaniment by Stephen Horne.
The Lost Boys (1987)
Director: Joel Schumacher Starring: Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman, Jami Gertz, Corey Haim USA / 97mins / 15
The Lost Boys is one of the 1980's iconic films! This classic tells the story of two new-in-town brothers who discover a local gang of motorcycle youths (including a young Kiefer Sutherland) who are more undead than actually alive!
Younger brother Sam (Corey Haim) works hard to eradicate the ghouls but his older brother (Jason Patric) falls in love with the group's lone female (Jami Gertz).Soon, he finds that he's gradually becoming a vampire himself.
Shot on location in the coastal California town of Santa Cruz and directed by Joel Schumacher (St. Elmo's Fire, Flatliners, A Time to Kill), The Lost Boys became a pop-culture phenomenon thanks to its attractive young stars, offbeat soundtrack, and a very clever marketing campaign.
The film's tagline: "Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire." perfectly captured its knowing mixture of attitude and gore.
We highly recommend booking tickets early to avoid disappointment!
