Kaarawan, A Filipino Birthday Dinner presented by SALO x Filipino Kitchen

Join Chef Yana Gilbuena of SALO Series and Filipino Kitchen for a special pop-up dinner in Chicago's Wicker Park. KAARAWAN (pronounced kah-ah-rah-wan) means 'birthday' in Tagalog and we're celebrating Filipino Kitchen's one-year anniversary!! Presented Kamayan-style, which is the traditional Filipino way of dining with one's hands, on banana leaves, without utensils. Fresh off SALO's tour across Canada and the 50 states, Yana is back in Chicago to collaborate on a special birthday menu with Filipino Kitchen. Standard Menu - $65

Bistek Tartare Appetizer The classic tartare, with a Filipino/Vietnamese twist. Minced sirloin, tenderloin and round, with calamansi, shallots, soy sauce and perilla, topped with quail's egg.

Crispy Kinalas Entree A Filipino noodle dish from Naga City. Kinalas refers to the meat which is removed (thus, kalas) from skinned and boiled pork’s head cut in half. Typically, served as soup, but will be served dry this time :)

Bicol Express Entree Hot and spicy sweetbreads* in coconut milk sauce.

Chicken Binakol Entree Chicken in coconut broth and coconut meat.

Deconstructed Halo-halo Dessert Halo-halo lumpia, served with a bed of sweet roasted corn, mashed purple yam, topped with corn and calamansi gelato, the classic flan and sprinkled with pinipig (puffed rice).
