EPA Climate Change Lecture Series
Covid-19 and Global Carbon Emissions: A glimpse of the challenge of reaching the Paris climate commitments
The EPA, as part of the National Dialogue on Climate Action, will host an online public lecture. It will set out the latest Global Carbon Budget analysis, including the impacts of Covid-19 and describe what is needed to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement in terms of both emissions reduction and terrestrial removals to 2050. The Lecture will address how this can be achieved while paying particular attention to what can be realistically expected from nature-based solutions (forestry, land management).
Invited Guest Speaker: Dr. Josep G. (Pep) Canadell
Our guest speaker for the evening is a Chief Research Scientist in CSIRO Climate Science Centre, Oceans and Atmosphere. He is also the Executive Director of the Global Carbon Project which provides annual updates on greenhouse gas emissions and removals. Pep was a Lead author of the IPCC reports in the areas of land use and land use change and has a broad understanding of climate, land use issues and policy.
