Workshop on Delivering the European Offshore Electricity System
Update as of 26 May 2023- Please note that we have now closed registrations for the afternoon roundtables as we fully booked to the maximum capacity. You can proceed with in-person or remote registration for the morning session only. Thank you for your understanding.
Offshore wind energy will bring a key contribution to reaching the objectives of the EU
The European Commission’s offshore RES strategy anticipates the integration of 300 GW offshore wind generation capacity into the energy system by 2050. The magnitude of this transition will raise new challenges for the European electricity system: accomplishing the necessary connections and grid development at least cost; keeping the system secure; accommodating a complete redefinition of power flow patterns; considering key constraints linked to spatial planning, environmental protection, and public acceptance; achieving an integrated perspective over time, space, and sectors; and ensuring flexible resources to keep the power system balanced.
In a series of papers released from 2020 to 2022, ENTSO-E assessed possible solutions to contribute to the realization of the EC’s Offshore strategy.
Join our workshop to discuss how to overcome these challenges and share your views. The afternoon will have stakeholder roundtables on topical questions.
ENTSO-E will also present the upcoming Offshore Network Development Plans (ONDPs), set out by Articles 14 and 15 of the revised TEN-E Regulation and upcoming in January 2024.
ONDPs will deliver a high-level outlook on the potential development of the offshore transmission system integrating the RES potential in each European sea basin. ONDPs will be based on the goals agreed upon by the EU member state governments, taking into consideration environmental protection and other uses of the sea.
When: 6th June 2023, from 10.00 – 16.15
Where: This is a physical event at ENTSO-E premises, 8 rue de Spa in Brussels. There is a possibility to attend remotely in the morning only.
The deadline for registrations is 30 May 2023
Please note that the workshop consists of two parts: a morning session (physical in Brussels with the possibility to join remotely) and an afternoon session (IN PERSON ONLY, in Brussels, with roundtables).
We look forward to welcoming you
