As Europe accelerates its transition toward a decarbonised energy system, ensuring system adequacy and security of supply remain a fundamental policy objective. Once considered a temporary tools, Capacity Mechanisms are increasingly becoming integral components of national strategies to safeguard resource adequacy.
ENTSO-E's recently published policy paper “The Role of Capacity Mechanisms to Enable a Secure and Competitive Energy Transition”, explores the evolving role of capacity mechanisms, assessing current design challenges, and developing a number of evidence-based policy recommendations to support their future development.
Several ongoing policy developments have further highlighted the growing relevance of capacity mechanisms. These include the EC proposals to streamline the approval of capacity mechanisms under new Clean Industry State Aid Framework, the European Parliament’s own-initiative report on energy security, and the upcoming revision of the EU energy security framework by the European Commission in 2026.
Against this backdrop, ENTSO-E is organising an expert-level public event to present the key findings of its policy paper and to facilitate an interactinve discussion among stakeholders and policy makers, with the aim to identify solutions for introducing and desigining capacity mechanisms supporting a secure and competitive energy transition.
Please note that in-person registrations will be closed once we reach the maximum capacity of the meeting room. Online registrations are also available.
