  • This course is for individuals who have some experience with Elixir but do not feel comfortable using it to build their next production application. We will cover issues usually seen in production Elixir applications, design suggestions, and other considerations to give you the confidence to work with the language in a production environment. There will also be discussion and Q&A with engineers with years of production Elixir experience. Trainings will be held Friday, February 1, 2019 - the day before the conference. A training ticket does not grant admission to the conference itself.

  • We’ll spend the first half of the day building the device and getting comfortable with developing and debugging on Nerves. If you’ve attended previous Nerves courses, this one will have greater emphasis on networking and device provisioning. The second half transitions to managing devices with NervesHub and developing a simple companion Phoenix application. The workshop is appropriate for beginners and expert Elixir programmers alike since it focuses more on embedded development than pure coding. Since the Nerves development is rapidly improving, even veteran embedded Elixir programmers will learn new ways of making their development cycle better. Beginners to Elixir are highly encouraged to create a couple toy projects and learn about GenServers and OTP releases beforehand. Hardware will be provided and must be returned at the end of the course. Attendees are welcome to bring their own hardware. Please see the EMPEX LA website for a bill of materials. Trainings will be held Friday, February 1, 2019 - the day before the conference. A training ticket does not grant admission to the conference itself.
