14:00 - Benefiting from Java 9 Improvements
Mention Java 9 and everyone immediately thinks of Modularization. While that's quite important, Java 9 contains many other improvements to the language and the JDK.
In this presentation we will dive into the language level improvements and also the changes related to the streams API and functional style of programming. The objective of this presentation is to help developers make better use of Java 9 from the language, the JDK, and functional programming point of view.
15:45 - Practices of an Agile Developer
Based on the book with the same title as this talk, and which was co-authored by Venkat, this talk will focus on several non-technical practices that are highly essential for the success of teams.
The format of the talk will be in the form of dialogs between the devil, which prompts us to do the wrong things, and an angel, which directs us in the right direction, and how to get a feel if things are working.
If you don't know this already(!) Venkat is an award-winning author, founder of Agile Developer, Inc., creator of agilelearner.com, and an instructional professor at the University of Houston.
He has trained and mentored 'thousands' of software developers in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia (and soon to b Ireland!), and is a regularly-invited speaker at several international conferences. Venkat helps his clients effectively apply and succeed with sustainable agile practices on their software projects.
Venkat is a (co)author of multiple technical books, including the 2007 Jolt Productivity award-winning book Practices of an Agile Developer. You can find a list of his books at agiledeveloper.com
You can follow him on twitter at @venkat_s. .
