Realising Better Work in the Gig Economy

⏰3.30-5pm

There is a new and growing entrepreneurial workforce that is capable of undertaking any service, from driving and delivering to cleaning and caring, with jobs automatically allocated to them through their smartphones.

At Doteveryone, we want to see a world where responsible technology is the new normal. We’re working to change how tech is made and used so that it supports a fair, inclusive and sustainable democratic society.

And while the growing gig economy provides many benefits to customers and workers, it currently lacks the social safety nets of traditional employment - it can be financially insecure and gig workers tend to have fewer opportunities for training and development.

Over the past six months, we've been speaking with gig workers to understand their needs and co-designed three prototyped solutions to provide new safety nets and help overcome the barriers they face.

Join Doteveryone and guests, including policymakers, senior leaders, civil society organisations and gig workers themselves to discuss our policy recommendations, our prototypes for what the best practice, responsible technology approach to gig work might look like and how we might build a coalition of support to take this work forward.

Anna Thomas, Director, Institute for the Future of Work

Callum Cant, Author of Riding for Deliveroo: Resistance in the New Economy
