Emotion- Understanding Interjections

Much profanity is considered to be an interjection. One of the most famous interjections is from the movie Gone with the Wind, where Clarke Gable's last words to Vivian Leigh are, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!"

DON'T: Be afraid to express yourself Interjections take on many forms. Expressions such as "excuse me" and "amen" are considered to be a part of these type of phonetics.

DON'T: Confuse introductory expressions for interjections Some interjections can also be used as introductory expressions, but not all introductory expressions are interjections. "Indeed," "well," "yes," and "no" are examples of these. Examples of this include, "Yes! I am," "Indeed she is," and "No! Don't go!"

DON'T: Use interjections in formal essays Grammar rules dictate that interjections do not have a place in an ama citation format of paper. Modern day writing does use interjections especially in news articles and social media.

An interjection often appears at the beginning of a sentence. It will be followed by an exclamation or comma at the end of the word. Some conventional words are also interjections such as "hi," "bye," and "goodbye." You may be using interjections that you didn't even realize. "Oops," "gee," "ouch," "ugh," "yuck," "hmm," "argh," and "grr" are some examples of speech we use every day that are considered interjections.
