Nomadic Designers and Design Tools Network join forces to bring you a crash course on creating an organized design system, effectively and efficiently by using the Sketch design tool.
We present a full-day workshop at the studio of IXDS. You’ll learn how to create a maintainable design system from scratch, and how to use plugins and shortcuts to speed up your workflow in Sketch.

Introduction
Heard about design systems but struggling with creating one? This workshop is for everyone who just got started, or already designs with Sketch, and is ready to bring their skills to the next level.
About us
The day is hosted by Javier Cuello and Roy van Rooijen. Javier takes care of the morning, while Roy teaches the afternoon.
Javier is a designer from Argentina. He worked on projects for companies like Zara and Yahoo, he self-published a book, and wrote several articles about mobile design on Smashing Magazine.
Roy is a UX Designer from The Netherlands, currently based in Berlin. He works for Germany's biggest service design studio IXDS. On the side he works on the popular Sketch Runner plugin. He is also the initiator of the Design Tools Network and organizes hackathons, meetups and events such as this workshop.

What you’ll learn
After this day you understand the essential ingredients of a design system in Sketch, and know how to create and maintain such a system effectively. In addition, we teach you how to work efficiently, and what good ways are for sharing your work with clients, peers or developers.
After the workshop you will:
- Know how to organize your document and define the rules of a system
- Understand how to keep your designed components in sync across documents and machines
- Have a custom set of plugins installed, that help you to achieve more in less time
- Know how to set up custom shortcuts that speed up your process even more
- Be ready to effectively prepare your work for presenting for any type of audience
FAQ
Should I be a Sketch pro?
You need a basic level of knowledge of working with Sketch. This will allow us to focus on the main contents. You don't need to be an expert, though! Just make sure to be familiarised with the tool.
What do I need to bring?
The only thing you need to bring is a MacBook with Sketch 48 or higher installed. We've got you covered with coffee, tea, snacks and a healthy lunch.
