Sketch Together Online!
Sketch Together Online!
Hi, I'm Denise! I make art explaining tech concepts from time to time.
As we practice social distancing to help protect our loved ones and communities, it's important to be mindful of our psychological wellbeing, and take some time to unwind. "Sketch Together Online" is a 100% free, online event, designed for dropping in and out (you can even join for 10 minutes, to take a short break if you are working). I'll be teaching short, hands-on doodling tutorials, and providing lots of time and space for participants to practice on their own, share their doodles, and generally use the time to relax and mentally unwind a bit.
If you want, feel free to share your creations on Twitter and Instagram using #sketchtogether!
How do I participate?
- Book a ticket, and join the Zoom call anytime between 12:00-3:00 PM EST on Monday, March 16, 2020 (instructions will be in the booking confirmation message)
- Register for a Gitter account so you can join the asynchronous chat (instructions will also be in confirmation). I'd recommend also downloading the Gitter mobile app to make uploading your creations extra easy.
- Get yourself some coffee, tea, or water
- Grab some some paper, pencil, markers, crayons, whatever drawing tools you want to use
- Dial in, open Gitter, and let's sketch together!
Note: After you book, you can add this to Google calendar via your email. The Zoom room details are also in there.
Code of Conduct
"Sketch Together Online" is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops, parties, Twitter and other online media. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organisers.

Anticipated FAQ
Will this be recorded? No, not this time. There will be a lot of downtime during the sessions, and I don't have bandwidth to edit together a video.
I've never drawn anything before! Can I still attend? Yes! This is very, very much geared at people with no drawing experience whatsoever. I promise you will have fun, and you will learn something new!
How come there's a cap on the number of tickets? I don't know how well this workshop works at scale AND online, so I'm trying to keep it manageable for the first iteration.
I wanna give you money for this! I'm doing this for free because I don't need the money -- not because I think that art, or any kind of labor, should be free. Go support your favorite artists by purchasing their work or contributing to their Patreon. Or give that money to your babysitters, housekeepers, neighborhood small business owners, and other people who can't work remotely under the current circumstances. Alternatively, consider making a donation to https://queercare.network who are doing vital work of supporting LGBTQIA+ folks who have been made more vulnerable by the public health crisis.
