Masterclass: Multi-sensory Installation and Accessible Musical Instruments – Jane Cassidy

A masterclass introducing Jane Cassidy’s multi-sensory artistic practice and her recent community-based projects. Jane is currently the Digital Artist in Residence at the University of Galway in the Centre for Creative Technologies, where her research focuses on developing accessible musical instruments for people with additional needs. Her work encourages audiences of all abilities and experiences to engage with sound, fostering inclusive and imaginative ways of listening and creating.

Speaker Bio


Jane Cassidy is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator from Galway City whose practice spans installation, video, music composition, electronics, and visual design for theatre. She creates immersive audiovisual environments that evoke a sense of synesthesia, blending sound and image into meditative multisensory experiences. Jane's work is motivated by accessibility, ecology, embodiment, multi-disciplinary engagement and collaboration. 

Cassidy trained in music and visual art, earning a Master’s in Music and Media Technologies from Trinity College Dublin and an MFA in Digital Art from Tulane University in New Orleans. Her solo exhibitions have been presented at the Knoxville Museum of Art (Tennessee), Customs House Gallery (Westport), Pallas Projects (Dublin), the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts (Alabama), the University of New Orleans Gallery (Louisiana), and the Ann Arbor Film Festival (Michigan).

In addition to her solo practice, Cassidy has collaborated on projects including Tactile Tunes with Arts Alive at the Galway International Arts Festival, The Sound Nest with That’s Life at Baboró, Somnium with Brú Theatre at GIAF, Aibreán with Art Squad at the Museum of Country Life, Making Space at the Galway Arts Centre, Babies in Space at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the New Orleans Shakespeare Festival, and a collaborative performance with Animal Collective at The Music Box, New Orleans.
