This event is an opportunity to find out more about Code the City and how you can get involved with our initiatives, including our latest project to turn the Soap Factory into a community skills hub for Aberdeen. You’ll get to meet current volunteers and see how your skills and experience could help to widen our impact.

About Our Working Groups

We're seeking volunteers to join six critical teams that will shape the future of Code the City:

Academy Working Group

Help us develop tech education pathways for both school pupils and adults looking to reskill. This group creates structured learning frameworks that make technology accessible to diverse audiences, from late primary students to career changers. You'll help design curricula, engage with industry partners and volunteers, and create clear skills pathways that empower learners of all ages.

Building Working Group

Be part of transforming our Soap Factory space into a vibrant community hub! This team plans and coordinates building upgrades, ensures efficient operations, and creates a welcoming environment for all users. From sourcing equipment donations to implementing sustainability initiatives, you'll help create a physical space that reflects our innovative spirit.

Events Working Group

Help curate and implement our exciting calendar of tech events, including regular meetups, hackathons, and our annual Scottish Open Data Unconference. Our aim is to make these events accessible and encourage people to network and collaborate across the community.

Finance Working Group

Contribute to our financial sustainability by developing relationships with partner organisations, creating business plans and financial models, applying for grants, and coordinating fundraising initiatives. This team ensures we have the resources needed to achieve our mission, maintaining financial health while exploring new opportunities for support.

Marketing Working Group

Enhance our visibility and reputation through strategic communications across our social media channels and monthly email newsletter. This group tells our story to diverse audiences, builds our brand, and ensures our community stays informed and engaged with all our activities and opportunities.

IT / Technology Working Group

Implement and maintain the essential IT infrastructure and tools that power all our operations. This team manages our hardware and software systems, evaluates and deploys new solutions, and provides technical support.

We also temporarily need support with a very special 7th group that will help to ensure that we have the right management processes and procedures as we mature and scale as an organisation. Your expertise will help build the foundation for our organisation's long-term sustainability and success.

Policies & Procedures Working Group

Identify, develop, and embed crucial business management documentation to ensure we meet regulatory and OSCR requirements, manage risks effectively, and operate with consistency, efficiency and transparency.
