As we approach the season of goodwill, where we merrily engage in the traditional excess that is the Christmas period, take a step back with Cannoli & Gun's alternative seasonal offering, with the black comedy Bad Santa. The good people at Salt Café will fix you some sandwiches, too.

When the build up to Christmas starts before Remembrance Sunday, it is easy to be jaded by the merriness of the season, the endless cheer and bonhomie. The idea that, just because it's Christmas in two months, we should all be merry and bright.

Well, if you're feeling like that by early December, swing by Salt Café on St George's Road on Sunday 13 December, and join us for some alternative festive fun.

Bad Santa tells the story of Willie (Billy Bob Thornton) and Marcus (Tony Cox), who find employment as Santa and his Elf in a different mall every year. And then, on Christmas Eve, they rob it, having spent the previous few weeks scoping it out. The only problem is that Willie is a foul-mouthed, alcoholic, womanising, all-round terrible human being.

And then they meet The Kid (Brett Kelly), a lonely, overweight boy who lives with his senile grandmother.

This is the least saccharine Christmas film you will see all year, but it's consistently hilarious, and will prove a worthy antidote to the rest of the season. And maybe, just maybe, there's a heart to the film after all...

Both the kid and the grandma are very, very keen to fix Willie sandwiches throughout the film. And so are the exceptional people at Salt Café. With a choice of salt beef, gherkins, and mustard mayo, or halloumi, harissa, and roast veg, these sandwiches are a goodly offering.
