Creating Brighter Futures | How business can support the next generation

Join business leaders and community advocates to explore the role of business in driving social mobility, through education.

Social mobility refers to changes in a person’s socio-economic situation, either in relation to their parents or throughout their lifetime.

A person’s social background can limit their work opportunities, which is further compounded by factors such as race, gender, age, and location.

One in four children in Northern Ireland live in poverty, (Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 2025) and this has a profound impact on their educational outcomes and future life chances.

The determinants of social mobility are complex, but businesses in Northern Ireland have a role to play in creating opportunities for all to change their socio-economic situation for the better. Many are already taking action to positively impact their communities, through education.

Tackling these challenges requires collaborative thinking and action across sectors.
