The Valley of Gwangi screening

ADVANCE TICKETS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED ON THE NIGHT.

It's time for our annual outdoor screening at Victoria Park!

This year, we're screening cult monster movie The Valley of Gwangi! Experience the wonders of Ray Harryhausen's stunning stop-motion work as cowboys take on dinosaurs!

When TJ Breckenridge (Gina Golan) hears of a forbidden Mexican valley where mythical creatures are rumoured to exist, she and members of her Wild West show attempt to capture something which she can exhibit at her show. They are amazed to find a huge Allosaurus which the locals have named Gwangi, or "Terrible One"!

FAQs

On The Night

Where is the film being shown?

Just in front of the children's playground in front of Mrs Brown's Cafe in the west section of the park.

What time will it start?

We hope to get the film started for 8.30pm, however if it is not yet dark enough by that time, we may have to wait an additional 10-20 mins. However, it's all part of the fun of outdoor screenings!

Can I bring children?

The Valley of Gwangi is a family film with a U rating, so children are more than welcome! However, please ensure that your children are accompanied by an adult at all times and that they do not disturb other audience members during the screening.

What if it rains?

In the event of wet weather, the screening will still go ahead - this is the UK! Make sure you check the forecast and dress appropriately. Make sure you bring warm (maybe also waterproof!) clothing and a blanket if you wish, as it does get colder in the evenings. Unfortunately we cannot give refunds if it rains.

Only in the case of extreme weather, such as dangerously high winds, will the screening be cancelled.

What should I wear?

Bring warm clothes, layers and blankets as it can get very cool towards the end of a screening. If the forecast looks a bit dodgy, pack some waterproofs just in case.

What should I bring?

  • A picnic
  • A torch or lantern to find your way in the dark
  • Warm clothes and blankets
  • A raincoat
  • Something comfy to sit on

Chairs are welcome [low ones preferred!] but you may be asked to sit at the side or the back to avoid blocking other people’s view of the screen.

Note: please be considerate if using an umbrella during a screening as it may block the view of those around you.

Can I bring a BBQ?

Yes, however we would like to ask visitors to raise the BBQ off the ground and not use disposable BBQ's. Please also bring suitable bin bags as we ask visitors to take their litter home.

Is there parking?

There is plenty of off-road parking around Victoria Park.

Tickets

Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately we cannot offer refunds on ticket purchases, except when we have had to cancel an event. You can, however, reallocate your tickets to someone else if you can no longer attend a screening you have bought tickets for – contact bristolbadfilmclub@gmail.com to do so.

I've lost my e-ticket!

Facilities

Are there toilets on site?

Yes, there are public toilets just behind Mrs Brown's Cafe. We will make sure they are open this year...

Will there be any food/drink available to buy?

Mrs Brown's Cafe will be open, but feel free to bring a picnic with you!

Is smoking permitted?

Smoking is permitted at our outdoor events, but please consider those around you and smoke away from the screening area.
