Coaches will be e-mailed about a short training on January 31, 2017 (7 - 9 pm). Please mark your calendar.

Requirements:

You must have a computer for this course. We recommend a mac but windows and linux machines will work fine.

Mac:

You must have OSX 10.7 (Lion) or higher installed on your computer. We recommend installing all updates and updating to OSX 10.11 before the Friday Intallfest.

Windows:

Please be sure that all updates are installed. Windows 7, 8 or 10 should be fine.

Friday Installfest

7:00pm - 9:00pm

We'll work together to set up your computer with the necessary tools and explore the command line a little. Bring your laptop and the battery charger. A tablet won't work for this. Let us know if you have a problem getting a computer and we will see if we can get one for you.

Saturday Workshop

The big day. Saturday will be focused on getting your Ruby on Rails application built and launched.

8:30am - 9:00am | Registration, coffee, & last-minute installation help

During the morning we’ll make sure your install from Friday is running well. Be sure to meet the other participants during this time! We will have breakfast and juice ready to get you going for the day.

9:00am - 9:30am | Welcome to B'More on Rails

We'll review the day's schedule & hear from our sponsors.

9:30am - 11:00pm | The building begins!

We'll review command line and Start programming. (This includes a 15-minute break.)

12:00pm - 1:00pm | Lunch!

Coders need to eat! We will have sandwiches, salads, and soup. There will be options for gluten-free, vegan, and veggie.

1:00pm - 4:30pm | Making Progress

We'll continue working on our applications, covering terminology, ruby and the command line as needed. We may not all finish building our applications - but everyone should have the tools and knowledge to continue after the workshop.

4:30pm - 5:00pm | Closing Ceremonies

5:00pm - 7:00pm | Afterparty!!

After the workshop, take some time to relax and hang with the local Rails community. Attendees, coaches, and tech & creative community members are more than welcome to come out.

Transportation and Parking

There is street parking around Betamore but it is all zoned with a 2 hour limit. We recommend parking in West Street Parking Garage and is about 2 blocks from Betamore. I believe that it's about $15 or $16 to park for the day. There's also a TON of public transportation so consider taking a cab, a Lyft or a bus (the circulator Purple line stops right in front of Betamore).

Food and Drinks

Food and drinks will be provided on Friday. Breakfast, lunch, and appetizers (at the afterparty) on Saturday. Please contact us if you have food allergies and we will do our best to make accommodations.
