Bitlink Bytes Regional Roadshow @ Devonport

Bitlink is on the road and coming to you!

We are hosting FREE technology workshops at Devonport Library this Easter holidays for youth aged 9 - 12 years old. These workshops are a part of our 2025 Bitlink Bytes Regional Roadshow, which will take the Bitlink team all across Tasmania! We are running these FREE technology workshops with thanks to a recent STEM education grant and will set our sights on a different regional area in Tasmania, for every coming school holiday period.

The first regional areas we're visiting are the West Coast and North West Coast of Tasmania!

On Saturday April 26th we will be at: Devonport Library (paranaple centre, 137 Rooke St, Devonport TAS 7310) from 9:30am - 2:30pm.

We will be running the following sessions:

Session 1: 9:30am - 11:30am Mama Dino (9 - 12yr olds) Code your own video game in MakeCode Arcade! Help Mama Dino save her babies from traffic and other obstacles! Once you're done we will show you how you can customise your game to make it more unique. Come along and make your own 2D video game to share with your friends and family!

Session 2: 12:30pm - 2:30pm Coin Collector (9 - 12yr olds) Create your own coin collecting game in Scratch. As the game gets faster and faster, try to collect the most coins before the time runs out! Use block-based coding to program your game and by the end of the session, you will have made a small game that you can share with friends and family!

Each session is primarily targeted towards 9 - 12 year olds, however some sessions will allow for slightly older or younger participants.

These sessions are also supported by Children's University, so bring along your passports and gain some additional hours!

Bitlink Bytes is a series of workshops that will give children a taste of how to become creators rather than consumers of technology! All sessions are designed as introductory sessions. If your child has worked with technology before, then we will mentor them on how they can go that little bit further and create something new.

Please note:

Parents/Guardians are welcome to sit in on these sessions. If you choose to do this, please do not book a ticket for yourself (parents/guardians can attend without a ticket).

These sessions are popular, and the tickets are free. We often exhaust our full ticket allocation and have people on a waiting list. If you have booked a ticket and are no longer able to attend that session, please email Troy at troy@bitlink.com.au to let us know, so that we can pass that ticket on to another attendee.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government. This project is also supported by Libraries Tasmania, the Tasmanian Government and Children's University.
