Bitlink Bytes Regional Roadshow @ Deloraine

Bitlink is on the road and coming to you!

We are hosting FREE technology workshops at Deloraine House this July holidays for youth aged 9 - 16 years old. These workshops are a part of our 2025 Bitlink Bytes Regional Roadshow, which will take the Bitlink team all across Tasmania! We are running these FREE technology workshops with thanks to a recent STEM education grant and will set our sights on a different regional area in Tasmania, for every coming school holiday period.

The second area we're visiting is North and North East Tasmania!

On Wednesday July 16th we will be at: Deloraine House (112 Emu Bay Rd, Deloraine, TAS 7304) from 10am - 3pm.

We will be running the following sessions:

Session 1: 10am - 12pm Clicktastic! (9 - 12yr olds) Create your own clicker game in MakeCode Arcade. Each time you click, you earn points. Can you compete with your friends and click your way to a new high score? Come along and make your own 2D video game to share with your friends and family!

Session 2: 1pm - 3pm Code Breakers (9 - 16yr olds) Learn about data encryption and protecting ourselves from hackers! Decipher the codes and send encrypted messages with the BBC micro:bit.

Parents/guardians are welcome to stay for the sessions, and it is recommended for persons under 9, that a parental figure sits with them to help with reading and comprehension.

By purchasing a ticket to this session, you are giving permission for your participant to be supervised by Bitlink staff members. Participants arriving without a ticket booking will need to provide a parent/guardian contact number for the Bitlink team to phone and get verbal approval from before entering the session.

These sessions are also supported by Children's University and so please bring along your passports and gain some additional hours and some special stickers for your passport!

All sessions are designed as introductory sessions. If your child has worked with technology before then we will mentor them on how they can go that little bit further and create something new.

Parents/Guardians are welcome to sit in on these sessions. If you choose to do this, please do not book a ticket for yourself (parents/guardians can attend without a ticket).

These sessions are popular and the tickets are free. We often exhaust our full ticket allocation and have people on a waiting list.

If you have booked a ticket and are no longer able to attend that session, please email Troy at troy@bitlink.com.au to let us know, so that we can pass that ticket on to another attendee.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government. This project is also supported by Libraries Tasmania, the Tasmanian Government and Children's University.
