Bitlink Bytes Regional Roadshow @ Beaconsfield
Bitlink is on the road and coming to you!
We are hosting FREE technology workshops at Beaconsfield Library this July holidays for youth aged 9 - 16 years old. These workshops are a part of our 2025 Bitlink Bytes Regional Roadshow, which will take the Bitlink team all across Tasmania! We are running these FREE technology workshops with thanks to a recent STEM education grant and will set our sights on a different regional area in Tasmania, for every coming school holiday period.
The second area we're visiting is North and North East Tasmania!
On Friday July 11th we will be at: Beaconsfield Library (33 Grubb St, Beaconsfield TAS 7270) from 11am - 4pm.
We will be running the following sessions:
Session 1: 11am - 1pm Mama Dino (9 - 12yr olds) Code your own video game in MakeCode Arcade! Help Mama Dino save her babies from traffic and other obstacles! Once you're done we will show you how you can customise your game to make it more unique.
Session 2: 2pm - 4pm Game Reviewer (9 - 16yr olds) Learn some basics about what makes great online video content. Make your own game review video using free online resources. Learn about: different kinds of videos and why they're successful, how to capture audio and video footage, and how to edit it into something engaging for people to watch.
Parents/guardians are welcome to stay for the sessions, and it is recommended for
persons under 9, that a parental figure sits with them to help with reading and
comprehension.
By purchasing a ticket to this session, you are giving permission for your participant to be supervised by Bitlink staff members. Participants arriving without a ticket booking will need to provide a parent/guardian contact number for the Bitlink team to phone and get verbal approval from before entering the session.
These sessions are also supported by Children's University and so please bring along your passports and gain some additional hours and some special stickers for your passport!
All sessions are designed as introductory sessions. If your child has worked with technology before then we will mentor them on how they can go that little bit further and create something new.
Parents/Guardians are welcome to sit in on these sessions. If you choose to do this, please do not book a ticket for yourself (parents/guardians can attend without a ticket).
These sessions are popular and the tickets are free. We often exhaust our full ticket allocation and have people on a waiting list.
If you have booked a ticket and are no longer able to attend that session, please email Troy at troy@bitlink.com.au to let us know, so that we can pass that ticket on to another attendee.
This project received grant funding from the Australian Government. This project is also supported by Libraries Tasmania, the Tasmanian Government and Children's University.
