Bitlink Bytes October 2024

This October we're holding our Bitlink Bytes school holiday programs again at the Launceston and George Town Libraries.

Bitlink Bytes is a series of workshops that will give children a taste of how to become creators rather than consumers of technology! Each session runs for two-hours and are primarily targeted towards 9-12 year olds.

These sessions are *free* due to generous support from Launceston Library and the Friends of the Library collective!

On Thursday October 3rd, at the Kinimathatakinta/George Town Library, we will run the following sessions:

Clicktastic (Ages 9-12)

  • 10am – 12pm

Create your own clicker game in MakeCode Arcade. Each time you click, you earn points. Can you compete with your friends and click your way to a new high score? Come along and make your own 2D video game to share with your friends and family!

Game Reviewer (Ages 10+)

  • 1pm – 3pm

Learn some basics about video editing and about what makes great video game content. Then make your own game review video using free online resources and share the result with your friends and family!

On Friday October 4th, at the Launceston Library, we will run the following sessions:

Hack your game (Ages 9-12)

  • 10am – 12pm

Code your own video game in MakeCode Arcade, and then hack it to make it more fun! What if the player had less time to win? What if the obstacles were harder to avoid? Come along and make your own 2D video game to share with your friends and family!

Pixel Artist (Ages 10+)

  • 1pm – 3pm

Learn the basics about making your own artworks using free online pixel art tools! Create your own artistic masterpiece to take home and display, and start your fascination with this diverse and flexible artistic medium of expression!

All sessions are designed as introductory sessions. If your child has worked with technology before then we will mentor them on how they can go that little bit further and extend themselves further to create something new.

Please note:

Parents/Guardians are welcome to sit in on these sessions. If you choose to do this, please do not book a ticket for yourself (parents/guardians can attend without a ticket).

These sessions are popular and we often exhaust our full ticket allocation and have people on a waiting list.

If you have booked a ticket and are no longer able to attend that session, please email Troy at troy@bitlink.com.au to let us know, so that we can pass that ticket on to another attendee.

These sessions are supported by Launceston Library and the Friends of the Library collective.
