Women in Medicine with Dr Marie Cassidy

This International Women’s Day we are honoured to have Dr Marie Cassidy join us for our annual Women in Medicine event. Dr Marie Cassidy studied Medicine at the University of Glasgow. She became a member of the Royal College of Pathologists in 1985, and in that same year became the UK's first female full-time forensic pathologist. After moving to Ireland she took up the position of Deputy State Pathologist before being name Ireland's first female State Pathologist in January 2004. She went on to become a professor of forensic medicine at both Trinity College and the Royal College of Surgeons, as well as acting as a consultant for the United Nations in Bosnia.  In 2020 Dr Cassidy released her number on best-selling memoir Beyond the Tape: The Life and Many Deaths of a State Pathologist. This was followed by a three part series on RTÉ entitled Dr. Cassidy's Casebook in which Dr Cassidy reflected on issues and cases which shaped her career in Ireland. Furthermore Dr Cassidy has acted as a forensic consultant on television series including Nova, Death Duties and Taggart, as well advising Irish crime writer Alex Barclay. Join us in Trinity Business School's Dargan theatre at 7pm on March 8th for Dr. Marie Cassidy in conversation with Dublin University Biological Association. We would also like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the Saint James' Foundation for their support on this event.
