National Air Event 2023

Clean Air - Vital for our health

The National Air Event, ‘Clean Air – Vital for our Health’, will take place in person in the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel on Wednesday 15th November 2023. The conference is targeted at Local Authorities, Regulators, Academics, Air consultants and advocates for cleaner air. All presentations will be recorded and will be shared via our EPA YouTube channel shortly after the event.

While Ireland is renowned for its beautiful coastline, countryside, and clean fresh air, we can’t take the air we breathe for granted. Localised pollutants of concern, such as a particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide have been identified across the country. More than 1,300 premature deaths per year in Ireland are due to air pollution. The Clean Air Strategy published in May 2023 sets ambitious air quality targets, in addition, the European Commission is reviewing the CAFE Directive to align more closely with the WHO Air Quality Guidelines.

This in-person event is an opportunity for those interested in improving air quality to learn more, from a range of speakers, about new developments including air quality forecast (Life Emerald)AEROSOURCE (sources of particulate matter) research findings, Ireland’s Clean Air Strategy and CAFE Recast.

Speakers include representatives from the Department of Environment, Climate & Communications, the Environmental Protection Agency, Irish Heart Foundation, University of Galway, University College Cork, and Local Authorities amongst others.
