The Music of Mother Ann
Join the Capitol Hill Chorale for our final concert of the season, "Mother Ann" on Saturday, June 1st at 7:30pm and Sunday, June 2nd at 4:00pm at Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church.
In 1774, Mother Ann Lee and eight followers of the United Society of Believers left England for the American colonies. Commonly known as the "Shakers" for their ecstatic movement during worship, they built communities across the east with reputations for pacifism, prayerful devotion, and high craftsmanship. Over the centuries, the Shakers in America have also gathered a catalog of beautiful, emotional music received in prayer, dreams, and visions.
For this concert, the Chorale is celebrating that rich, musical tradition alongside the 250th anniversary of the Shakers' arrival in America, all while honoring their beloved Mother Ann. Featuring Washington Revels, Soprano soloist Amy Nicole Broadbent, and the return of Composer-In-Residence Kevin Siegfried, come hear Shaker tunes you know and love—and many that you've never heard before!
On-Demand Option:
We are also offering an On-Demand ticket option for those who cannot attend this concert in person. By purchasing that ticket, you will receive a link to the video of the Sunday concert, which will be available to watch at any time after that point. Everyone who purchases a ticket to attend in person will also receive access to the On Demand options for later viewing. We will also be releasing this link publicly. Please note that we are still formalizing our digitization process and there may be hiccups or delays. We encourage you to see us live if you can!
COVID Precautions:
We do not require masks or proof of vaccination for audiences, but we encourage you to be respectful of their neighbors' preferences. If you are sick, please do not attend—even if it's not COVID. (We are happy to issue a refund).
Specific requirements may be updated based on COVID levels in the area. We will keep this ticket page updated with the most current information, and we will happily issue refunds to those who might be unable to attend based on changes to our safety policies or due to illness.
