Capitol Hill Chorale Paliashvili Tour to Georgia Reception

The Capitol Hill Chorale warmly invites members of the Georgian community in Washington to attend a reception celebrating the Chorale's upcoming performance tour this June for an evening of music, food and wine in support of the Chorale's ongoing project performing the music of Zakaria Paliashvili.

The tour will kick off in Washington with concerts on June 1st and 2nd, followed by performances in Tbilisi (Kakhidze Tbilisi Center for Music and Culture) on June 22nd and Kutaisi (Kutaisi Opera House) on June 27th, the Paliashvili House Museum, Gelati Monastery and Samtavisi Cathedral. Attendees will receive a code for a free ticket to the concert June 1st or 2nd in DC. (Ticket codes and redemption instructions will be sent at a date closer to the concert.)

About the Capitol Hill Chorale

The Chorale is an award-winning 100-member ensemble founded in 1993, attracting singers from Capitol Hill and the entire metropolitan area. It is characterized by camaraderie, community spirit, and commitment to musical excellence. The Chorale is especially interested in illuminating under-appreciated works of American choral music and the Orthodox choral tradition. Under Artistic Director Frederick Binkholder, the Chorale has taken a leading role in researching and performing Georgian Sacred Chants on the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom by the “father of Georgian classical music,” Zakaria Paliashvili (1871-1933). A virtually unknown work, the Chorale performed it twice in concert in 2010 and 2014 and in June 2014, made the first recording in the Georgian language. The Chorale’s research on the piece was highlighted by a trip to Georgia in the summer of 2012, visiting monasteries and churches throughout the country as well as Paliashvili’s birth museum in Kutaisi, and his apartment museum in Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital. The Chorale used its own performing edition, which was created from the original 1909 score.

About the Linich Family

The Linich Family Trio is led by internationally acclaimed Georgian polyphonic singing scholar Carl Linich, performing with his two sons, Sean and Luke, who were both born in Georgia and raised in the culture. The trio has performed in Georgia, Europe, and the U.S. since 2009. Carl has received two prestigious awards from the Georgian government in recognition of his work to promote and preserve Georgian folk music. He currently directs the Supruli Ensemble in New York City and the Bard College Georgian Choir. He is also a founding member of Trio Kavkasia, now celebrating its 25th anniversary. The Linich Family Trio is based in Poughkeepsie, NY.
