This promises to be an extremely informative and practical seminar. GEMME Ireland is fortunate to have secured two of Ireland's most experienced mediators to speak at the event.

The seminar will be chaired by The Honourable Ms Marguerite Bolger Judge of the High Court and president of GEMME Ireland

The panel will consist of: Cathrina Keville BL

Ms. Cathrina Keville BL is a practising barrister with a special interest in alternative dispute resolution. She is an MII accredited and practising mediator, a member of Dublin Community Mediation, an adjudicator and mediator with the Residential Tenancies Board, a former Chairperson of the Arbitration and ADR Committee of the Bar Council of Ireland and a lecturer on the Kings Inns Advanced Diploma in Mediation.

Bill Holohan SC, Solicitor

Bill Holohan SC, Solicitor is a senior and experienced legal practitioner who has been actively involved in alternative dispute resolution and mediation for many years. He is currently a member of the Civil & Commercial Committee of the Irish Professional Mediators' Organisation (IPMO) and a member of the Law Society ADR committee. He is passionate about mediation and as he says himself had “a road to Damascus conversion to it” following 25 years of practice in litigation. He has accumulated invaluable and practical expertise in mediation, which because of his passion for the process he is only too willing to share with others.

"Bill Holohan SC, Solictor will share some of his mediation experiences, talk about "what makes people tick and what makes people thick", about getting people to understand the difference between their subjective perception and objective perspective, about how you get people to shift their negotiating position, and why Mediation works"

GEMME Ireland is very pleased to host this hybrid event. Attendees may attend in-person or join online. Registration is required in advance.

Additional Information

GEMME – Groupement Européen des Magistrats pour la Médiation/European Association of Judges for Mediation – is an organisation that seeks to assist judges in familiarising themselves with mediation. GEMME is an association of judges of the EU member states and member states of the European Free Exchange Group, including Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Iceland. The primary aim of GEMME is to promote national associations of judges who are committed to mediation and other alternative forms of dispute-resolution processes that are legally permitted.

Participation in GEMME conferences and related activities enables the sharing of information and best practice in mediation across Europe. It also affords opportunities for the professional training and upskilling of judges in effective mediation and ADR approaches.

The first chair/president of GEMME Ireland was Mr Justice Paul Gilligan (retired judge of the Court of Appeal). The current chair/president is Ms Justice Marguerite Bolger (High Court). Membership of GEMME Ireland includes many members of the Irish judiciary and associate members who are accredited mediators. The branch regularly hosts presentations and seminars on mediation and ADR topics, including mediation in commercial matters, family-law matters, civil matters, and in the area of restorative justice.
