Additional Information

This extremely special coffee comes from the La Cumbre farm, which is situated at the edge of the Costa Rican capital, San Jose. It is owned by Allan Oviedo, a second generation grower, who has worked on the farm his whole life and has named his micro mill after his father, Don Joel.

For 3fe, this is our fourth year working with the La Cumbre farm, and the first we’ve gotten our hands on this incredibly special variety – SL28 – a plant which was produced as part of experimental research led by Guy Gibson in Kenya, by Scotts Labs. The SL28 was planted on the farm about five years ago when Allan was given some seeds from a famous Costa Rican farm, Herbazu. He decided to plant them as an experiment to see if it would give him a different flavour profile than his existing crop varieties.

At the event, we will be the first group in Ireland to taste this amazing coffee, SL28 variety, which is the first of its kind ever harvested on the farm, and will experience the coffee as a filter, an espresso and with milk, giving them an entire overview of what it has to offer.

What makes it even more special, is that Hasbean Green buyer, Stephen Leighton, who has not only sourced this amazing coffee, but has visited the farm a number of times, will be presenting a fascinating talk, with all first hand information all about Finca La Cumbre, farm owner Allan Oviedo, this exciting new experimental variety and what makes all of this so special.

There was only a tiny amount of this variety produced in this harvest (a mere two 69kg bags!) so this is a very special lot that we’re thrilled to have! We have always been impressed with Allan’s willingness to experiment and are excited to be able to share the first taste of this coffee with you.

Each guest will also take home a bag of the La Cumbre SL28 coffee, before they go on sale to general public. Tickets cost €30 This will include entrance to the talk, your coffee at the event and a take home a 250g limited edition bag of La Cumbre SL28. Places will be very limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
