"William Trevor: A Huge Alas" - Trinity Oscar Wilde Centre Public Lecture

The Oscar Wilde Centre for Irish Writing and the School of English, Trinity College Dublin present a Public Lecture

'William Trevor: A Huge Alas'

by Dr Ian Sansom, Director of the Oscar Wilde Centre

Date: Thursday 23rd March

Time: 6pm

Dr Sansom was appointed Director of Trinity's Oscar Wilde Centre in 2016.

Dr Sansom is a novelist and critic who studied at both Oxford and Cambridge where he was a fellow of Emmanuel College. He previously taught in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick and Queen's University Belfast. He is a frequent contributor to The Guardian and the London Review of Books.

"We cannot choose our parents but we can perhaps choose our literary precursors. William Trevor's example has been an inspiration to me and doubtless to many other writers. In this lecture I want to explore his legacy and in particular - in this age of loose talk and bombast - I want to consider what we can learn from his depiction of human frailty and failure."- Dr Sansom.

The Trinity Oscar Wilde Centre for Irish Writing is located in 21 Westland Row and was opened in January 1998 as the teaching and research centre for both the long-standing M.Phil. in Irish Writing and the M.Phil. in Creative Writing. The Centre was originally the home of the Wilde family and it was in the Westland Row house that the famous son of Sir William and Lady Wilde ('Speranza') was born on October 16th 1854.
